Romania’s National Flag Day

Romania celebrates its National Flag Day on Wednesday. “Our national flag stands next to the flags of all our allies and partners”, Romanian President Klaus Iohannis pointed out in a statement on the occasion. “Together, we share our common values and ideals in international missions carried out as a NATO, EU and UN member,” the president said. “The three-colour flag should be honoured as a proof of our engagement all over the world”, Senate speaker Nicolae Ciucă said on the occasion while Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu reiterated his call for unity under the national flag. „It is a sign of respect for our history and a legacy for Romania’s next generations – a modern Romania, able to stand against challenges in NATO security space and European democratic values”, Mr. Ciolacu said.

Romania still out of Eurozone

Romania is not expected to meet conditions concerning its Eurozone membership, the European Commission said after a survey concerning Romania’s drive in meeting legal and convergency criteria, according to a statement of the EU Executive issued on Wednesday. The Commission has reported on the progress of Bulgaria, the Cezch Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Sweden towards adopting the euro. These progress reports are issued every 2 years. The latest country to join the euro area was Croatia in 2023. The euro is the second most-used currency worldwide with almost 350 million people using it every day.

Flood yellow code in 12 Romanian counties

Romania’s National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA)  has issued a yellow code warning in 12 Romanian counties. The yellow code is expected to last until Thursday at noon. Most affected areas include the counties of Cluj, Bihor, Alba, Arad and Mureș. Romania is known as one of the most flood-prone countries in Europe. The World Bank is now supporting Romania to develop and report new Flood Risk Management Plans based on new maps.
