Romania’s electricity consumption up by almost MW 1,000
Romania’s domestic electricity consumption is up by almost MW 1,000 given the ongoing functioning of air conditioners amid the heat wave of over a week. Wind energy is not available given the absence of wind while photovoltaic panels appear less efficient due to their heating under the sun. Romanian authorities were therefore under pressure to import electricity at highest costs as neither existing reservoirs or Danube flows would prove of much help. The number of consumers has reached 140,000 with a total installed power of over 1.5 gigawatts – equivalent of two nuclear reactors fron Cernavodă nuclear plant.
