In August, Romania was among the states in the European Union with the largest advance of construction works

In August, Romania was among the states in the European Union with the largest advance of construction works. According to the data provided by Eurostat, the growth recorded in our country was 4.7%, after an advance of only 0.2% in July. Above Romania were Sweden in August, with an increase of 7.2% and the Netherlands, with 6.3%. At the Union level, construction work increased by 0.4% in August compared to July. However, at an annual rate, i.e. compared to August 2023, the works decreased by 2.4% at the community level.

Consumption and investments in infrastructure contributed the most to the slight economic growth recorded by Romania in the first eight months of the year

Consumption and infrastructure investments contributed the most to the slight economic growth recorded by Romania in the first eight months of the year, according to statistical data published today. The other indicators are stagnant or have even decreased, conditions in which, this year, we will have an economic growth of only 1.5%, and next year, of approximately one percent.
Financial analyst Adrian Codirlaşu says that, to the 8% increase in consumption recorded in the first eight months of the year, the increase in salaries by almost 14 percent contributed in particular, well above the level below 5% recorded by inflation. Otherwise, the industry shows some signs of stabilization, and the evolution of constructions, although slightly decreasing, is supported by public investments in infrastructure, explains Adrian Codirlașu.
Adrian Codirlașu: The industry remains at a minus 2% this year. It’s true, it’s not going down anymore and somehow it seems that the activity is capping at this level in the industry. On the construction side, here the situation is quite difficult, in the sense that, what leads to the smaller decrease in construction, are public investments, which increased in the first eight months of the year by over 6%.
Considering all these developments, most likely the economy will keep or even reduce its current growth rate in the second part of this year, Adrian Codirlașu points out. He adds that, based on raw data, without taking into account elements related to seasonality, in the first half of the year the economic growth was only 0.7%, given that the fiscal impulse was extremely important.
Once this fiscal impulse disappears, the economy will decelerate, and if there are tax increases, the pace of the slowdown will be even stronger, so that next year we will have modest economic growth, below potential, and there is even a risk of recession, says the analyst.

A series of repair works will be started on the Romanian side of the bridge between Giurgiu and Ruse

Beginning from Monday, a series of repair works will be started on the Romanian side of the bridge between Giurgiu and Ruse. The activities will be carried out simultaneously with those underway on the Bulgarian side, starting from the middle of the bridge. For this reason, for a distance of approximately 150 meters, the movement will be carried out on pallets, directed by the border police. Starting today, the construction site will be set up and road signs will be installed. The customs authorities recommend that drivers in cross-border transit also use the other crossing points on the border with Bulgaria and consult the „Traffic Online” application, available on the website of the Border Police.
