Electoral campaign for parliamentary elections in Romania has officially started
The electoral campaign for the parliamentary elections in Romania has officially started, running in parallel with the campaign for the presidential elections. Parties, alliances or independents are running for one of the 466 seats in the next Romanian legislature. There are 14 candidates from across the political spectrum and independents in the presidential race. According to the Permanent Electoral Authority, in parliamentary elections Romanians can vote at the polling station where they are registered on the permanent lists. Voting on supplementary lists is possible at any polling station outside the locality where the voter is domiciled or resides, but only within the same county, which is an electoral constituency. In the capital, the vote cannot be cast in another district. Romanian citizens domiciled or residing abroad can vote either by correspondence or at polling stations organized abroad. In the country, voting for the parliamentary elections begins on Sunday, December 1, at 7 a.m. local time (GMT+2) and will end at 9 p.m., with the possibility of an extension until midnight. The Central Electoral Bureau has drawn lots to determine the order of the candidates on the ballot paper in the presidential elections. The electoral campaign for the presidential elections started on October 25 and will end on November 23 at 7 am. The first round of voting takes place on November 24 and the second round is scheduled for December 8.
Romanian Public Radio celebrates 96 years of continuous broadcasting
Today Romanian public broadcaster – Radio Romania – celebrates 96 years of uninterrupted broadcasting. On November 1, 1928, at 5 p.m. local time, with the announcement „Hello, hello, this is Radio Bucharest”, the first radio broadcast in our country began. In recognition of the decisive role that radio has played in Romania’s history, the Romanian Parliament decided in December 2019 to establish November 1 as National Radio Day. On this occasion, an anniversary concert will take place on Friday at Sala Radio, under the baton of the esteemed Romanian conductor Cristian Mandeal. In his anniversary message, Răzvan-Ioan Dincă, President and CEO of the public broadcaster – Romanian Broadcasting Company – underlined the current and future major objectives of Radio Romania. „We need to think about how to reinvent radio for young audiences. And one step, which I think is essential, is to bring the content down from on air to digital, which I think we have finalized this year by the fact that we have now finished all the Radio Romania websites, including the regional ones, and we are going to reintegrate them all into a single portal that will include all the news that you do on air, which I think will bring an added value and will attract a younger audience”, said Răzvan-Ioan Dincă. Addressing all employees, CEO Răzvan-Ioan Dincă added: „We are a small Romania. Radio Romania is a small Romania. Happy birthday to you all and keep on being as good as ever!” Several Romanian personalities sent their best wishes to public radio, among them Dumitru Prunariu, aeronautical engineer and the first Romanian ever to fly in the cosmos. „A good thought for Radio Romania. It is the most complete radio station that I have listened to, listen to and will listen to both in terms of news, information and very diverse content. Whether it is Radio Romania Actualități, Radio Romania Cultural or other stations of Radio Romania, they are all very professionally produced and the broadcasts are just as professionally received by listeners”, said Dumitru Prunariu.
Romanian authorities to oversee the price of Romanian products in stores until December 31, 2024
A committee made up of specialists in the field will monitor Romanian products on the shelves of large stores until December 31, 2024. The experts want to solve the problems reported in the market regarding the unjustifiably high trade surcharges for domestic products compared to imported products. The committee is made up of representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Competition Council and from the retail and processing area. The Minister of Agriculture, Florin Barbu, said that the cap on the commercial additives for all products processed in Romania has not been lifted, despite challenges from several commercial players in the sector.
