Romania’s Tourism Fair opening in Bucharest

Romania’s Tourism Fair (TTR) opened at Romexpo Exhibition Center in the capital Bucharest on Thursday. The fair is expected to highlight top travel opportunities in the country from November 21 to 24. The event brings together key players of the industry in Romania and beyond. Some 10,000 visitors and 215 exhibitions are expected at an event seen as most significant for the country’s industry in the field. Participants in the event also include tourism operators from Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, Egypt and Italy. In Romania, the revenue of the travel & tourism market is expected to reach USD 2.69 bn by 2024 with an annual growth rate of 5.1% between 2024 – 2029.

Emergency session at Romania’s Environment, Waters and Forests Ministry

Romania’s Minister of Environment, Waters and Forests Mircea Fechet has called for an emergency meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Emergency Situations (CMSU) on Thursday. The move comes following emergency warnings of Yellow, Orange and Red Codes of bad weather launched by the country’s National Meteorological Administration (ANM). Participants in the meeting included officials of Romania’s National Institute of Hydrology and Water Administration, Romanian Waters’ National Administration, National Company of Road Infrastructure Management (CNAIR), and others. Following ANM’s warnings, Mr. Fechet called for real time weather information allowing immediate intervention in affected areas.

Communities in central and eastern Romanian counties without electicity

Heavy snow and winds affected communities in Romania’s central and eastern counties of Harghita, Vrancea, Galați and Sibiu on Wednesday. In Harghita, towns and cities such as Tulgesh, Borsec, Toplitza, Bălan, and others were left without electricity with emergency teams trying hard to ease the crisis. In central Romania, the Covasna county remains under heavy snowfalls. Heavy snowfalls are also reported in north-eastern parts of the country with snow removal teams operating during the night. Railway is also disrupted in some areas.
