Ensuring medical assistance for inmates has become a major problem
Ensuring medical assistance for inmates has become a major problem, while only half of the medical jobs are now taken, said the managing director of the Penitentiary National Administration Marian Dobrica on Thursday. “Attracting doctors in this area is very difficult and very few of those who graduate profile universities chose to remain in penitentiaries. One possible solution could be to subordinate the penitentiary medical offices to the penitentiary-hospitals” said Marian Dobrica. He also drew attention to the fact that the penitentiary system was confronted with the massive leave of medical personnel, during the last two years, in which 25% of the employees gave up their jobs.
Prime minister Viorica Dancilă sends Jean Claude Junker a letter, asking clarifications concerning the corruption cases
Prime minister Viorica Dancilă addressed on Wednesday a letter to the President of the European Commission, Jean Claude Junker, asking clarifications about the document published by the press and attributed to the Commission, in which details about some corruption files were requested. Also, the prime minister asked that the Mechanism for Cooperation and Verification is lifted, invoking progress made by Romania concerning justice.
The document is a letter attributed to the European Commission, dated 10 October 2012, sent to the justice minister at that time, Monica Pivniceru. It includes, among requests dealing with the Mechanism for Cooperation and Verification, concrete and direct solicitations about certain penal cases and certain people investigated for criminal charges, for corruption and abuse of power, including George Becali, Adrian Năstase, Şerban Alexandru Brădişteanu, George Copos, Tudor Alexandru Chiuariu, Ioan Dumitru, Decebal Traian Remeş, Cătălin Voicu, Dan Voiculescu. Viorica Dancilă asked Brussels to specify if the document is authentic, institutionally assumed and if it is the only one of the kind, as the incumbent minister of justice, Tudorel Toader, claims that transmitting such imperative requests by the European Commission used to be a repeated practice. The European Commission should explain the reasons and criteria for such a nominal list but also the way in which the information they have received have contributed to evaluate the progress Romania made.
