Romania celebrates The Royalty day, a national holiday
Romania marks the Royalty Day on May the 10th, with events meant to evoke the vital contribution that the Royal Family had in the evolution of the modern Romanian national state. A military ceremony was held in the square in front of the Royal Palace, at the statue of King Carol the First, who led the country to independence. Events dedicated to the Royalty Day have started in the morning with a marathon that started in front of the Victory Arch. A party will take place at the Elisabeth Palace, and an exhibition in the King Michael Park, formerly known as Herastrau. The 10th of May, that was declared a national holiday in 2015, used to be Romania’s National Day, until the Communists came to power, in 1947.
On Europe’s Day, the Romanian President say that some politicians are questioning the role and relevance of European Union
Romania’s President, Klaus Iohannis, has said that some politicians are questioning the role and relevance of European Union. They knowingly overlook the advantages of being a part to this project and suggest that Romania would be better off outside the European family, the president underlined.
Klaus Iohannis: What these politicians do not say is that without democracy, without the rule of law, without fair legislation, there is no prosperity and welfare for most of the citizens. There would only be privileges for a limited group that is in power.
At the reception he hosted at the Cotroceni Palace, president Klaus Iohannis has also said that Romania’s place is next to the European states, where democracy, freedom and justice prevail. He added that Romania has committed to enter the euro zone as soon as possible and to continue the moves to be a part of the free movement Schengen area.
Romania takes part in the Turin International Book Fair
Romania is present, for the 10th consecutive year, at the International Book Fair in Turin, the most important event in this sector that takes place in Italy, starting on Thursday. The graphics of the Romanian stand evokes the Great Union Centenary and the First World War. Romanian authors invited to the event include Ana Blandiana, Dinu Flamand and Stefan Damian. Radio Romania is a media partner to the Turin International Bok Fair.
