The American Ambassador to Romania has visited the county of Vaslui
The United States Ambassador to Romania, Hans Klemm, has been on a visit to the county of Vaslui on Friday. He was joined by the Deputy Prime Minister Ana Birchall and Members of Parliament from Vaslui and also county officials. The Ambassador had a meeting with the mayor of the city of Husi and then he went to visit the Jewish Cemetery in the town, which was devastated three weeks ago, when 73 tombs were destroyed.
Hans Klemm: This is not the first incident of its kind in Romania. During the last two years, similar acts of vandalism have occured in Bucharest, Reghin and Zalau. These attacks are not only against the Jewish people, as an expression of anti-Semitism, but they are also attacks against the human dignity.
„This time, I will vote!” – a national campaign to bring the youngsters to the polls at the European election
The European Commission Representation in Romania has launched on Thursday in Timisoara a national campaign aimed at turning the young people out to vote at the European Parliament election, called „This time, I will vote!” The event has brought together thousands of people, mostly youngsters, who were able to learn more about the elections and European topics. The Head of the European Commission Representation in Romania, Angela Cristea, has explained why these elections are so important.
Angela Cristea: Around 75% of laws that are enforced in Romania are decided in Brussels and Strasbourg by the European institutions, where Romanians are represented by those that they will elect on the 26th of May. This year is, again, very important, because Europe is at a crossroad. There is clearly a legitimate unease of some citizens, we have several studies that also show us the source for these dissatisfactions – it is a model of economic growth that has led, on one hand, to a drop in poverty but, also, on the other hand, to an increase in social inequalities. If we want to have a consensual construction, with the participation of everyone, it is very important to recover this category of citizens that now feel abandoned.
Show of lights on Bucharest’s Victory Road and George Enescu Square
Friday is the second day of the Spotlight Festival, so tonight, in the Romanian capital, several buildings on Victory Road and in the George Enescu Square will be animated by a show of lights. Traffic restrictions will be in place from 8:00 PM to the midnight, until Sunday, as the main routing of the Spotlight Festival is on Victory Road and spaces from Lipscani Street and University Square. As a result, restrictions include Victory Road, from C.A Rosetti to Queen Elisabeth Avenue and from Queen Elisabeth Avenue to Splaiul Independentei.
