Comemoration of the 1989 Romanian Revolution
RADOR (December 16) – The Parliament meets at 12:00 in a solemn meeting to mark 30 years since the Romanian Revolution in December 1989. President Klaus Iohannis, the presidents of the Houses of Parliament, Prime Minister Ludovic Orban, NATO deputy secretary general, Mircea Geoană as well as representatives of all eight parliamentary groups will hold speaches. The Synod of the Romanian Orthodox Church (BOR) will also hold a special meeting, during which Patriarch Daniel will talk about the importance of the heros sacrifice in December 1989 for the regaining and reaffirmation of freedom. The European Parliament will also mark today, through a debate, the 30-th anniversary of the Romanian Revolution in December 1989. On this occasion, a declaration of the European Commission will be presented for the first time. The interventions of the leaders of the political groups and of the Euro-MPs will follow, and the debate will end with a resolution, which will be put to a vote on Thursday.

The Justice Ministry will promote the abolishment of the Special Investigation Section in this domain – the Justice Minister, Cătălin Predoiu, said. Attending an anniversary meeting of the prosecutors, he explained that the decision is supported by the choices of the magistrates consulted by the ministry, as well as by the criticisms made in the country reports. Cătălin Predoiu also said that the ministry will begin an evaluation process, with all the factors involved, including at parliamentary level, in order to determine the repairs to be made to the laws of justice and the Criminal Code and the Criminal Procedure Code. Recently, the Senate rejected a legislative proposal to abolish the Special Section.
The Education Ministry of Education will hold a debate on the results of PISA tests
The Education Ministry of Education is holding today a debate on the results of PISA tests, at the Central University Library in the capital, Bucharest. Minister Monica Anisie recently announced that representatives of teachers, students and civil society will participate, along with specialists, in this discussion. The official also said that by the end of this month she wants to have a set of concrete measures, known and adopted by all educational actors. The most recent results of the Romanian students in the PISA tests, those of 2018, registered a decrease compared to the previous evaluations of this type.
