President Klaus Iohannis is taking part in a video-conference of EU leaders
The European Council is holding a video conference to discuss measures aimed at dealing with COVID-19 pandemic and the Romanian President, Klaus Iohannis, is also attending. Before the conference, Mr. Iohannis has said that the main topic on the agenda is the roadmap for economic recovery recently presented by President of the European Council and the President of the Commission. Klaus Iohannis has also said that this endeavor defines a set of principles that will lay the grounds for the future plan for economic recovery and includes the main directions of action which are due to be part of that plan. Romania supports this endeavor – Mr. Iohannis has said, adding that one of the most important goals of the economic plan was to ensure a strategic autonomy for the EU in vital sectors such as healthcare.
New clusters of coronavirus infection in Romanian hospitals
Hospitals in Romania have reported new clusters of COVID-19 infections. In the town of Pascani, ten cancer pacients and eight employees at the Municipal Hospital have tested positive for the novel coronavirus. An epidemiological enquiry is also under way at Focsani’s St. Pantelimon Emergency Hospital, where 31 staff members were infected.
More than 20,000 clients if the Romanian Commercial Bank have asked for their rates to be postponed
The Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR) has said that more than 20,000 of its clients have required the postponement of their rates, in line with a government decree on this issue. However, more than 40% of them have opted for solutions offered by the bank, to suspend their rates only for a three months period, a BCR official said. More than 70% of BCR customers also own an unemployment insurance.
