Bucharest lockdown out of question, Romanian PM says
„There is no question of closing schools in Bucharest despite the capital’s over six Covid cases per 1000 inhabitants”, Romanian Prime Minister Florin Cîțu said on Tuesday. „There is also no question of Bucharest being under complete lockdown”, Mr. Cîțu added. „We need to discuss issues with economy experts in order to see the implications of the move before any decision would be made. We are expected to review the information we got at a meeting today, at 6 PM. We are also expected to discuss the issues with Health Minisrtry officials. However, as I already pointed out, a total lockdown was out of question. Schools are not being closed. Schools will stay open”, Prime Minister Florin Cîțu said, according to Radio Romania. Prime Minister Cîțu met Bucharest Mayor Nicușor Dan and mayors of the six Bucharest districts at the government headquarters at Victoria Palace in Bucharest on Tuesday. The talks focused on ways designed to avoid complete lockdowwn of the capital.
Radio Romania as ABU guest
Radio Romania was invited to join a jury of the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union for the UNESCO Media Peace Awards – a new platform for promoting peace in Asia-Paciific region. The invitation went to Dan Șanta, head of Radio Romania’s Foreign Relations Department. Media Peace Awards is a platform designed to promote, encourage and strengthen understanding and tolerance between people and countries around the world. The ABU Award 2021 ceremony is scheduled in Hanoi, Vietnam, later this year.
Romania coronavirus updates
Romania reported 6,149 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday with 174 deaths (96 men, 78 women) and 1,367 people under intensive care. In the capital Bucharest, the number of new cases hit 695, according to data issued by the country’s Strategic Communication Group (GCS). With its 397 cases reported, the north-western county of Cluj is leader among other counties across the country. Cluj is followed by Brașov (central Romania) with 319 cases, and Ilfov (southern Romania) with 301 cases.
