Romanian firefighters continue battle against wildfires on the Greek island of Evia
45 Romanian firefighters continue their mission in the Spatari area on the Greek island of Evia, affected by severe wildfires. Romanian firefighters are assisted by eight special vehicles, and a six-member crew of rescuers have the mission to ensure the water supply for trucks and to dig trenches to limit the spread of fire. According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, Romanian firefighters use drones to monitor fire outbreaks. The most destructive fires in Greek history have devastated the north of the island of Evia, where more than 35,000 hectares of pine forest and hundreds of houses have been completely destroyed. Thousands of residents and tourists were evacuated on sea from the regions in the path of the flames.
Inflation rate will increase in the coming months, reveals a report of the National Bank of Romania
The National Bank of Romania presented on Monday the report on inflation for the last three months. The current scenario highlights a higher trajectory of the annual inflation rate forecast over the next two years. The consistent rise in prices in July of energy products, natural gas, electricity and fuel pushes the annual inflation rate in the second half above previously anticipated values, according to the central bank. According to the latest report, the annual inflation rate will rise sharply in the coming months and will reach 4.1% in December.
Romanian COVID-19 cases and vaccination updates
The daily number of new cases of coronavirus infection remains at over 200 in Romania. Another 208 infections have been reported in the last 24 hours, and three deaths, while the number of patients has increased to 79 in ICUs. Nearly 7,000 people have been vaccinated against COVID in the last 24 hours, of which more than 4,000 with the first dose. Four side effects have been reported and 49 are under investigation.
