Joint session of the Romanian Parliament to mark one year since Russia began its agression in Ukraine

A joint plenary session of the Romanian Parliament has been held on Monday to mark the one-year anniversary of the launch of the Russian Federation’s military aggression against Ukraine. The Ambassador of Ukraine in Bucharest, Ihor Prokopchuk, speaking to the Romanian senators and deputies gathered in a joint session, has expressed Ukraine’s deep gratitude towards Romania and the Romanians for the quick response to Ukraine’s needs. „We appreciate Romania’s support for Ukrainians, at all levels,” he added, noting that Ukraine is resisting Russia’s aggression and is convinced that it will win. „Russia must be excluded from the UN, and the culprits must be brought to justice”, the Ukrainian ambassador has added For their part, the Romanian lawmakers have expressed the total support of Bucharest for Ukraine. „I don’t have the slightest doubt that Ukraine will defeat and put a stop to Russia’s thirst for power”, the president of the Senate Defense Committee, the liberal Nicoleta Pauliuc has stressed. „The culprits for this tragedy must be held accountable before a war tribunal”, the lawmakers also pointed out in their speeches. The vice-president of the Chamber of Deputies, social democrat Daniel Suciu, has showed some photos from the moment when thousands of Ukrainians fled the war and arrived safely in Romania. The leader of USR senators, Radu Mihail, however, has criticized the fact that Parliament did not adopt a statement condemning Russia and its aggression against Ukraine.

Tickets for the George Enescu International Festival are running out

Over 19,000 tickets have been sold, from February 1 until now, for the 2023 edition of the George Enescu International Festival. There are no more tickets available for nine concerts in the program, although the event starts halfway through the year. Under the motto „Generosity through Music”, the festival brings together, for almost a month, 3,500 invited artists, more than 150 soloists, 40 conductors, 41 orchestras from 16 countries and no less than nine Romanian orchestras. This year’s edition brings some new elements, such as the series of educational concerts dedicated to children made in partnership with the Odeon Theatre, as well as the Season of Romanian Orchestras. The artistic director of George Enescu Festival is conductor Cristian Macelaru. Maestro Zubin Mehta, one of the world’s greatest conductors of recent decades, is Honorary President.
