Romania’s BCR ranks third in FinnoScore banking report
Romanian Commercial Bank, the BCR, ranks third in a Finnoscore banking report issued on Thursday. The FinnoScore analysis covered 234 commercial banks in 24 countries in Europe and North America. In Romania, BCR ranks first with a score of 6.81 points mainly due to its George mobile app. It is followed by Banca Transilvania, with 6.15 points, well above any other bank in Romania. Hungary’s OTP bank ranks third (6.09 points), followed by CEC Bank, ING Bank, and many others. Austrian based Finnoconsult claims that Finnoscore assesses digital maturity and initiation experience of retail banks and insurance companies based on 300 criteria as they compare over 230 banks, 30 private banking providers and 69 insurance companies across Europe and North America.
Chief of Romania’s Aviation General Inspectorate under investigation
The head of Romania’s Aviation General Inspectorate is under investigation on corruption charges, Radio Romania reported on Thursday. Cătălin Dache, is charged with corruption in a file of abuse of office. Mr. Dache allegedly approved papers expected to allow the pay of maintenance work for several aircafts while being aware that such operations were improperly performed.
Russian threats firmly rejected by Romanian PM
Romania’s Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu of the left-wing Social Democrya Party (PSD) reacted angrily to a statement on Thursday of pro-Russian governor in the Ucrainian province of Herson. The Russian official threatened to blow up a bridge between Galați and Giurgulești linking Romania with neighbouring Republic of Moldova. “Such threats against Romania, a NATO ally, are inacceptable. Attacks on civilian infrastructure are seen as a war crime”, Mr. Ciolacu pointed out. The statement also appeared on the Twitter accounf of Romania’s Foreign Ministry. The Russian threats come following a Ukrainian attack of a bridge linking Herson with Crimea, a Black Sea peninsula illegaly seized by Russia in 2014.
